South African Road Trip III - Cape Agulhas

Opublikowany: 23.01.2018

Overnight, the wine level had decreased significantly. So, it was time to hit the road again and head to the southernmost point of Africa. Cape Agulhas!

One of the goals of this road trip is to drive along the coast as much as possible. So, we got off the N2 and drove along a seemingly endless straight road that eventually turned into an off-road track. This is Africa!

Mutti drove her little car through the wilderness. At times, I was afraid the front axle would come off. But with VW, you can always rely on it.

Just before Struisbaai, we came across a properly paved road again.

The Cape Agulhas Backpackers is located in Struisbaai, a small town seven kilometers away from Cape Agulhas. It offers a pool and clean, modern dorms. So, we took a dip in the pool to get some sun and swim. Gotta maintain that tan until spring!

Many travelers skip Cape Agulhas, but I think the landscape is worth a full day of exploration. After all, it's the southernmost point of Africa where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

In the morning, you can even see huge stingrays in the harbor basin.

Furthermore, the long beach in Struisbaai is perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Walking Meditation! An ocean within me, sand, sun, and wind.

In the evening, we had a traditional Braai, a South African barbecue with delicious fresh fish and salad. Yummy.

Unfortunately, Mutti got caught up in a very exhausting conversation with a colleague and ended up being completely drained. She went straight to bed.

Next Stop: Wilderness!

In that spirit: Let's hit the Garden Route!

Have Fun and Be Proud!

Your Jan/Mutti
