A few days ago, we had already booked our first surfing lesson in Westport, without knowing that we would get a job so quickly. Since we didn't want to waste the hours, we drove from Motueka to Westport on Saturday. There we received a one-hour introduction and then headed out to the sea. It was incredible and I think I've fallen in love with the sport.
The work on the apple plantation is very tiring and monotonous. Every time I close my eyes to sleep in the evening, I see apples. But at least working gives us the opportunity to listen to podcasts 😅🥲 (I've never listened to so many podcasts before).
Through the job, we also got accommodation. Or rather, we were allowed to park our car in front of a hostel and use the kitchen, bathroom, etc., but we had to sleep in the car ourselves. Over the almost four weeks that we worked on the plantation, we also made many new friends who continued to accompany us on our journey. When there was no more work for us and the others after three and a half weeks, we celebrated a big farewell party at the hostel, where everyone cooked a specialty from their home country. Madlen and I are the only Germans. We had many people from Argentina, Uruguay, France, New Zealand, and Spain.
What was also very nice is that Anton also worked nearby on another apple plantation, so within the almost four weeks, we could meet roughly every two days.
We had a lot of fun in this big group, which made it all the more sad to watch everyone pack up and ultimately drive away.
