The forest of buildings drove us out of the city center today. The day before, we discovered an advertisement for a "typical New Zealand" market. Full of excitement, we made our way there, only to realize that the market consisted of only eight stalls, which mostly offered? Dingdinging, correct answer! Sweets. You could have actually guessed it, as the market was advertised as typically New Zealand. Strangely, there was no ice cream.
But since we had already walked quite a long way, we decided to explore the area. Always going in the direction that looked the most inviting. And our village nature sensors did not disappoint us: suddenly we stood in front of a staircase that seemed to lead directly into the jungle. With all the ferns, leaves, and palm trees, you could hardly see further than five meters inside. If we had been in Australia, we probably would never have dared to go in there - but that's why we're in New Zealand, because nothing can poison us here. So off to the adventure. The sight was breathtaking. A small creek flowed along every corner and the noise from the past few days seemed infinitely far away. Only the chirping of birds could be heard. The trees were partly so intertwined that we were not surprised that the signs led us along the path of "Lovers Path". It was magical, it was stunning, it was finally New Zealand. We just couldn't get enough and hiked through our own little jungle for a good five hours. If we had known, we probably would have worn our hiking boots, but who can imagine that such a fascinating place is in the middle of a city. Auckland may still not be the most beautiful place in the country, but that was definitely the most beautiful spot in Auckland.
(By the way, our jungle is called Auckland Domain, for those of you interested in topography ;) )
