Sneek (Frisian: Snits) is a town in southwest Friesland with almost 35,000 inhabitants. Sneek is characterized by canals, but also has an old town center that is worth seeing.

The city's landmark is the Waterpoort, a remnant of the medieval city wall. The imposing gate is really beautiful from all sides.

The Fountain of Fortuna is installed in the canal behind the Waterpoort. It is one of the 11 fountains that were built in 11 Frisian cities. The Elfstedentocht is famous in Friesland. People skated down the frozen canals of 11 towns in Friesland. Since the canals no longer freeze over every year, the Frisians have basically come up with the summer version with the fountains.

What is also interesting for Sneek is that the first C & A store was opened here. Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer left their older brother's company in 1840 and founded the company C. & A. Brenninkmeijer in Sneek , Netherlands, on January 1, 1841 with 3,301 guilders in equity and 10,000 guilders in credit from their father.

The Frisian Shipping Museum in Sneek is very special. Here you not only learn a lot about shipbuilding and the typical Frisian ship types, but also about the Elfstedentocht and home furnishings from around 1700 to 1900. A visit is definitely worth it!
