Lemmer is located on the IJsselmeer and has around 10,000 inhabitants.
The place boasts a real world heritage site: the Wouda steam pumping station. It was built in 1920 by the Dutch civil engineer Dirk Frederik Wouda and is still in use today (during extreme floods). The purpose is for the Frisians to keep their feet dry. 😉 To do this, the system pumps the channels empty.
Otherwise, Lemmer is a nice little town with a lock worth seeing.
