We put a lot of thought into our luggage. 2 big backpacks, a children's backpack, and a daypack are all we can carry. We read about what other backpackers take with them and what makes no sense at all. You gave us a lot of small, useful things which we are very grateful for and we are happy to use them.
The time in Germany was like a dry run for us in terms of baggage - we could test everything and the next day run to the next drugstore to buy something else. We were glad that our backpacks didn't overflow after this test phase, but still had plenty of space.
If only we had known that a rain cloud would sneak into our lightweight luggage, we would have filled it with something more useful. Chocolate or the heavy SLR camera?
It all started in Germany. Somehow, cold and rain had spread with us. Instead of charcoal on the grill, there was rain. Instead of a water party, there was a children's disco in the living room and we didn't wear summer skirts, but 3 layers of clothing. Soon our supply of warm clothes was worn out and we had to get creative to keep ourselves and the children warm and be able to do laundry at the same time. We have even blow-dried baby socks.
Except for flip-flops, we adults didn't have any other shoes until the last day, which we stoically endured, and which was advantageous in the occasional downpour.
In any case, we were fed up - with two sniffing children, we set off on the journey to distant Georgia together with our friend Verena. The prospect of tangerine trees, long days at the black sea, and the photos of our own pool in our Airbnb had lured us here. Of course, the sun was shining brightly in our thoughts in the background.
Unfortunately, this was not the case. We were greeted by a rainy city from where we took a bus through a rainy landscape to reach a rainy bay. One advantage of the subtropical climate zone: the air was so warm that the rain could hardly cool it down. So it didn't get uncomfortably cold when we got caught in a shower, just uncomfortable.
And so we made the best of the situation: we enjoyed a week of luxury with a nice hostess, read and ate a lot, went for walks in the forest and on the beach, and played cards.
Unfortunately, we couldn't take a single vacation photo with the sun because the sun never made it through the clouds. We felt its presence only through the sunburn, which showed up on our backs in the evening despite the clouds.
And so a week at the beach passed as quickly as one would expect from a beach vacation. And while Verena flies back home, we have decided to follow the sun. We follow the Georgian weather frog to the east of the country. Western Europe is currently suffering from unusual heat, but we are happy about drying clothes, dry feet, and above all - a beautiful background.
