This shoe museum, the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, has captivated me - a cultural history of everything you can wear on your feet and have worn at some point. From all countries, regions, and religions of the world; for viewing, trying on, participating, reflecting, and reconsidering. I am thrilled!
My personal highlight object was Birkenstock sandals created in collaboration with Manolo Blahnik - a luxury designer firm that was also a topic in Sex and the City in the early 2000s.
The Bata Shoe Museum has really inspired me for the museum scene in Toronto. First, I went to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) over the weekend. The ROM is talked about everywhere as one of the museum highlights; - well, I was rather confused and didn't feel so involved.
From the biodiversity exhibition section, where mainly stuffed animals can be seen, you enter directly into a small room where tin soldiers are exhibited, and then to the dinosaurs. I didn't understand this house and its structure and left confused. What's so great about it? And what didn't I understand?
At least my nephews would have enjoyed all the dinosaur bones, but I had enough soon. So, in my opinion: shoes are better than ROM.
