After a peaceful night at the Sinn river, it was time to break camp again and mentally and morally prepare for the crossing of the Spessart. I had a few good meters of elevation ahead of me, so I took my time before setting off :D
When I sat on my bike, I immediately felt the headwind again, but I still enjoyed the last kilometers in the picturesque Sinntal. There was also a highlight in the morning: a fox sitting fully focused at the side of the road, which only fled when I was practically next to it :) Unfortunately, I was still too slow to take a photo...
Since I followed the official R2 cycle path through Hesse, I was somewhat surprised that many sections of the route ran on the road. However, it was Sunday and there was little traffic. And the smooth asphalt made cycling uphill a bit easier, so it wasn't too bad at all.
The advantage of climbing meters is always the view that awaits from the top. I made ample use of that on the highest elevation and took a break there.
Afterwards, there were some nice descents, but the combination of ride and headwind made me very grateful for my insulated jacket.
In the afternoon, I arrived in Fulda and stayed with friends again. After a wonderful shower, I felt like a new person and we took a walk through the city and treated ourselves to ice cream in the sun. In the evening, we cooked together and chatted, and I received valuable support in planning my further route :)
The next day, on Whit Monday, it was time for hiking. We drove to the Röhn and explored the beautiful Stellberg. In the meantime, my thousand questions about the forest and plant world were answered :) When we made a stop at an organic farm on the way back to buy homemade ice cream, I was once again blissfully happy. Cooking together and a game night were the perfect ending :)
Thank you again for the wonderful 2 days, you two!
