1. The 'Torres del Paine National Park' is located 150km from Puerto Natales in the middle of the Patagonian pampas and on the edge of the southern Patagonian ice field. Its appearance is impressive even from a distance. The hiking trails, which join together to form the famous five-day W Circuit, lead to various points in the heart of the massif...
2. One of the few glaciers in the region that is not shrinking but retains its ice mass and continues to move forward is the 'Perito Moreno' glacier near the Argentine city of 'El Calafate'. At its widest point, it is 5 km wide, and the height of the front edge is up to 70m. The glacier periodically pushes through the 'Lago Argentino' and completely damms up this lake approximately every 4 years, until the front part of the main moraine, which divides the water in two, collapses completely within a few days and drifts away in the form of ice floes...
3. The mountain village 'El Chaltén' is located 300km away from the nearest larger settlement at the foot of the Andes. The mountains, which rise behind the few houses into the sky, are over 3000 m high and, with their rugged edges, steep walls, and incredibly rapidly changing weather conditions, are among the most demanding in the world. Only in 1974 was the 3133m high granite cliff 'Cerro Torre', after 'Fitz Roy' the highest and probably best-known summit, conquered. We were content with a few day tours on the edges of the massif and enjoyed the good view from there:)
