Slowly settling into the everyday life of a backpacker: wake up, shower, breakfast, plan the day...
Since there wasn't much to do today, on a Sunday, we treated ourselves to a relaxing day. In the morning, we visited the Sealife aquarium. Besides the penguins and other ocean creatures, the tunnel aquarium with sharks and giant stingrays was particularly impressive. Unfortunately, our originally planned day trip to Sealife didn't take much time. So afterwards, we went to the Victoria Market, a large street market with a huge selection of food, clothing, and other goods.
In the afternoon, we met up with two other backpackers whom I had already connected with on Facebook in Germany. Together, our goal was to finally see the ocean and the beach. And it was worth it. We were blessed with good weather and the lack of other tourists meant we almost had the beautiful Port Melbourne Beach to ourselves. And it is definitely worth a visit!
In the evening, I successfully introduced Hannes to the art of cooking pasta. Afterwards, we played cards in the common room with great company, brainstorming a way out of our alcohol detox and puzzling over the reasons for some questionable hostel guests. With special anticipation for the comforts of our hostel room, we didn't end our cozy gathering too late, thus concluding our first Sunday in Australia.
