We have to get up early again. The 2-hour drive is exhausting because I didn't sleep well. Nevertheless, we enjoy the surroundings with the high mountains and snow-covered peaks.
We take a 2-hour catamaran ride from Jucy through the fjord. Although the sun is shining, the wind blows cold into our faces. We pass by 150-200 meter high waterfalls, a seal colony, and out to the open sea.
The best waterfall of all plunges from the top, without being slowed down by cliffs. This experience is indescribable. We stand at the very top, in front, on the ship. The wind blowing from the waterfall to us is tremendous and then, out of nowhere, water! It pours over us like heavy rain. Now everyone is awake at the latest. Then the next phenomenal experience. Huge dolphins appear in the water in front of us. They swim around our ship and dive underneath. I have never been so close to wild dolphins before.
Unfortunately, this tour also comes to an end and we have to drive back to Te Anau. On the way, we stop at Mirror Lake. A stop that I absolutely recommend! The entire mountain range behind it is reflected in the water of this lake. New Zealand surprises us again and again. An unplanned stop at a viewpoint where many cars are parked. Why? A wild Kakapoo can be seen here. A huge parrot-like bird that only exists in New Zealand.
During the whole trip, we talk about how we would design our own campervan. Dreams...
Back in Te Anau, we take a nap in a parking lot. That's the great thing about the campervan.
On to Gembay, a walk on the beach, and to Monkey Island. A small island in the sea that can be explored at low tide.
