we-at-Great Barrier Reef & Whitsunday Islands

Lofalitsidwa: 20.12.2017

Arrived in Cairns on the east coast of Australia, after a 4-hour night flight with plenty of sleep..., they went straight to their new home, a cozy campervan, and drove up the coast to the oldest rainforest on our planet.

Surrounded by beautiful beaches and impenetrable jungle, Sabrina & Wendelin often hiked to the refreshing waterfalls and waterholes in the area. The only chance to cool off in northeastern Australia. Unfortunately, swimming in the sea and on these beautiful beaches is not possible, as sharks, box jellyfish (jellyfish with long, poisonous tentacles), and especially saltwater crocodiles roam here. Just a few days ago, a crocodile devoured a vacationer while swimming.

The two were fascinated by the landscape, as it was completely the opposite of what they experienced on the West Coast, which appeared more barren and desert-like. Here in Cairns and the Daintree River area, everything was green, green, green.

In search of the animal inhabitants of this area, the two embarked on dangerous outings to find crocodiles. In the famous Great Barrier Reef, they had the chance to make our first two dives with diving equipment and compressed air and swim with turtles, Nemos, and other reef inhabitants at a depth of 10 meters - fascinating how close you get to the underwater world. However, Wendelin consumes so much oxygen that a bottle only lasts 30 minutes...

On their way south, they headed to Airlie Beach on a catamaran, with which they sailed around the Whitsunday Islands for 3 days. With Captain Wendelin and his crew of 9 men and women, they went to the absolutely white Whitehaven Beach. Always packed - the sexy tight-fitting stinger suits. Then we went snorkeling in many small reefs with turtles and the huge Maori fish, which like to be petted.

Short note: High-speed internet is rather a foreign word here in Australia, so we are a bit behind with our blog. But we are coming to Brisbane today and hope to show you our past days soon. :)
