Esna and Luxor

Lofalitsidwa: 03.02.2022

We set sail from Edfu at dawn. We didn't see anything from the city... only heard. There was an Egyptian wedding at a bar by the dock.

Just as a side note, I saw a tramp stamp on a man for the first time.

Today we are going to Esna to visit the temple. Since it is close to the Nile, we can walk there this time.

The temple is still under restoration and the colors that are emerging are amazingly preserved.

The tour lasts for one hour and then we head back to the ship towards Luxor.

Ahmed, our very competent guide, suggests that to complete the image of Egypt, we take a carriage ride through Luxor. I managed to convince Jürgen to do it. We take a bus to Luxor and get on carriages there. It goes through alleys and neighborhoods that the average tourist would hardly come across.

Among other things, there is a street here where only men are allowed to shop, and another where women and children are allowed. In general, the customs in this part of Egypt are still very traditional compared to Cairo. The classes and schools are still separated by gender. Also, you need the parents' consent if you want to meet a girl. These meetings are never alone, but always within the family circle. It's not like that anymore in Cairo, as I said.

Our horse Sonia is so thin that we give the coachman an extra tip for food.

After we're back on the ship and had dinner, a belly dancer comes on board today.

It's going to be a fun evening with Silvia, Gerhard, Carola, and Kiki. It's great that we had such nice fellow travelers🤩
