The flight to Buenos Aires was very relaxed, we slept well and covered over 11,000 km in no time.
Total chaos at the airport in Buenos Aires. We stood in line for 2 hours before passport control in an unairconditioned hall.
Cheers! Good luck to anyone who has to catch a connecting flight here 🤦♀️
And we're lucky because we were the first to get off the plane. Then we had to find our suitcases. The baggage claim from Zurich was naturally no longer indicated.
We found one suitcase standing next to the baggage claim, the other one was still going around on the baggage carousel from Atlanta🤦♀️Actually, the suitcases were supposed to be checked in all the way to El Calafate, but we had to go through customs with them and then check them in again. So with suitcases in tow, we walked to the Domestic Terminal. A huge construction site, but at least it's operational unlike Berlin. Waiting for the connecting flight to El Calafate.....but the wine at the airport is good and incredibly cheap.🍷🍷Onwards with Aerolineas Argentina. The food, well. The views from the plane are fantastic, turquoise blue lakes and snow-capped mountains in the background. The landscape itself is rather barren and reminds us of Namibia in terms of vegetation. After a 30-hour journey, we arrived on time in El Calafate, even the suitcases made it, but the car rental agent is nowhere to be found. They're probably taking a nap. Time definitely ticks differently here. Okay, the car rental agent eventually shows up and we can finally drive to the hotel in Calafate. The landscape is very surreal and so are the clouds. The rental agent said that we shouldn't run over any hares and guanacos 🦙 🦙🦙. That's a short-haired alpacart. On first glance, our hotel, Design Suites, is great.
A room with a view of the Lagos Argentinos. We're greeted with a welcome glass of sparkling wine and then we take a shower and change clothes.
As we found out, my suitcase was broken into and the lock no longer opens and the zipper is broken....there's always something 🙁 But the janitor helps us out. We reserve a table for dinner and enjoy a huge Argentine steak with a view of the lake and sunset. 🌅 We pay less than €30 for 2 steaks and a bottle of wine. We fall into bed completely exhausted with a view of the lake and excited for the next morning 😘
