After the coast, we were in need of some movement, so we booked our mountain bike adventure in Derby. Since it was fully booked on the weekend, we took the time to explore the northeast coast. In Bridport, thanks to Martin's charm, we got a beachfront spot and discounted metal fishing lures (normally you fish with small fish, but they smell in the fridge). In good spirits, we headed to the beach with our fishing gear.
After Jacqueline cast her line, her new bait was already stuck in the rocks. After unsuccessfully trying to pull it out with the fishing rod, there was only one option left: take off our clothes and jump into the water to free the hook. We then moved to a different spot hoping for fewer rocks in front of us. After multiple casts, both lures got tangled in the rocks again. Jacqueline's shaking technique freed her metal fish, and Martin pulled on his line until it snapped. Sadly, we lost the newly gifted lures and caught nothing but pasta. Fishing is not so easy after all.
In Derby, we picked up our fatbike. With a group of bikers, we took a shuttle up the mountain for an hour. Then we rode 30 kilometers of single trail through the rainforest without seeing a single soul. After lunch in the garden of a pub, we took the shuttle up to the next mountain. After another 20 kilometers, we were completely exhausted. It was an absolute highlight for us.
