Tag 272 - Cenote Calavera

Lofalitsidwa: 21.12.2021

Hello everyone!

Today our day started at 8 o'clock. Just like yesterday, we enjoyed our beautiful balcony for a while and then headed to Roman and Tiziana around 10 o'clock :).

Originally, we wanted to book a dive in one of the many cenotes here, but the dive shop next to our accommodation was closed and another one didn't answer the phone. We were told that most cenotes here are not very deep, so we decided to go exploring on our own without diving gear. We looked up some cenotes online and off we went. Our destination was the 'Cenote Calavera'. Once we arrived, we dutifully paid the entrance fee plus an additional fee for our cameras. In retrospect, it was completely pointless, as no one checked who had a camera and who didn't - tourists, you know :)

At first, there were a lot of people there, but most didn't stay long, so it was a constant coming and going. The water was freshwater and not really cold, but a welcome refreshment.

We had so much fun, goofed around, and did everything for the perfect photo :).

At 1 o'clock, hunger struck and we also started to feel that the water was quite chilly.

We made our way towards the beach and came across a beach club that looked like a really nice location! We quickly parked the car and went inside. They demanded a minimum consumption of CHF 60.-/person, which was really expensive for Mexico. But we decided to treat ourselves and had high expectations. The path led through an artificial jungle trail, which was really cool! The expectations rose.... And then it came! The beach! Aaaaaand...... What a disappointment! *laughs*

Sure, the lounges were nicely done, but the beach itself was dirty and the food was very expensive and meager... When paying, the waitress also forcefully demanded a 15% tip, which finally confirmed to us that this was our dumbest investment so far. Nevertheless, we had fun as always and decided to drive to the beach 'Paradise' after the meal. This one wasn't really impressive either, so after taking a couple of photos, we moved on. We made a short stop at a cenote called 'Tortuga', where we had hoped to see turtles. But it was about to close, and the lady at the reception told us that there were no turtles there - it was just the name.... Hihihihi

Alright, and off we went towards the hotel. It was already 5 o'clock by now and we were all glad to have some time to relax. We dropped off Roman and Tiziana and went back to our place as well. As soon as we arrived, we rushed to our restaurant - nobody was satisfied with the small meal we had for lunch :)

I had a fajita and Kevin had a burger.

Afterwards, I started uploading the pictures and working on the blog - Kevin was busy with his phone :))

Maybe Roman and Tiziana will come by, because tomorrow we will continue our journey towards the south. You will find out more about that tomorrow ;)

For today, we say: Thank you for reading and see you tomorroooooooooow ;)
