Greece and our conclusion. Since there are different opinions on a joint trip, you will also get the conclusion individually.
RONNY: - a very beautiful country, - nice and helpful people, - tourist areas less welcoming, - partly impressive landscapes, - food reasonably priced, - camping sites, the only flaw being the sanitary facilities
ELA: We entered Greece on the west coast and what was immediately noticeable was the much better roads compared to Albania. However, it was also noticeable that the rural roads were quite empty. Every few hundred meters, there are usually small boxes with candles and offerings, often in the form of water bottles or food. At first, we thought they were places of prayer, but it slowly became clear that they are memorial sites for accident victims or, if the accident ended without serious consequences, places of gratitude. There are many wells and water spots with spring water on the roadside in Greece. I thought that was really great. However, the roundabouts are confusing. Usually, the driver entering the roundabout has the right of way. However, there are often multiple regulations with stop signs or a nearby main road in a roundabout. Once we had a roundabout with 7 outgoing roads and there was a different regulation at each one. We circled three times in shock because we kept missing the right exit somehow.
The sanitary facilities in restaurants and campsites do not always meet our hygienic standards. More than once, I was glad to have a toilet in the camper.
In the touristy coastal regions, you are usually treated friendly. However, from time to time, also somewhat derogatory. Whether it was due to us personally, we don't know. Outside the usual vacation regions, in smaller towns and mountain villages, we were always treated friendly and warmly.
In general, helpfulness seems to play a very big role. For example, when we discovered a dent on the outer casing of our rear tire, the campsite owner immediately called the car workshop. And poof, two employees from this workshop came to the campsite and inspected the tire. Everything was fine, we were allowed to continue. They even declined the tip as a thank you. However, Ronny persisted and after a wordy Greek-German farewell, everyone was happy and satisfied.
Would I go to Greece again?
I can't answer that exactly. On the one hand, it has beautiful nature and historical sites, but somehow I personally didn't really connect. But who knows...
