New Year's Eve in Viña del Mar

Lofalitsidwa: 04.01.2019

I spent my New Year's Eve in Viña del Mar. Together with Ignacio, I watched the fireworks, which were launched from boats along the entire coast, from the beach in Viña del Mar. The fireworks themselves lasted about 20 minutes, and many people also lit firecrackers or released lanterns into the air. It was definitely one of the most beautiful fireworks I have ever seen and one of the best New Year's Eves I have ever experienced. It's a different feeling to sit on the beach in a T-shirt while this is happening, compared to standing in the cold in Germany and possibly not even having a clear view.

After the fireworks, we went to a New Year's Eve party at the so-called Copa Jackson, where horse races usually take place. Ignacio had already taken care of tickets, even VIP tickets, a few days before. There, among other things, I tried Pisco, a Chilean alcoholic national drink, and Ignacio tried to teach me how to dance Cumbia. Cumbia is the music genre that is most played at parties with young people in Chile, along with Reggaeton. However, I still have no idea if there is a fixed sequence of steps for this dance. To me, it looked like a slightly modified version of Lambada, but it was really fun. Around 6 o'clock in the morning, we finally went home because our location was closing and we went to bed.
