Wind of change

Lofalitsidwa: 14.04.2018

This headline describes our day quite accurately.

Already tonight it stormed and rained so much that we could hardly get any sleep.

The wind was whistling and our camper could barely stand it. Unfortunately, this morning was hardly any better.

But we didn't want to miss a sight, Dyrhólaey. As they say, there is no bad weather, only bad clothing.

Once we reached the top, the first problem occurred. The door was caught by a gust of wind when opening and torn out of its frame. It was still hanging, but was difficult to close.

But well, we wanted to see Dyrhólaey and fought against the wind. Yes, we really had to fight. Took a photo as evidence and headed back to the car.

On the way down and further to Reykjavik, two more problems occurred.

First, a piece of the car's paneling fell off.

We were able to retrieve it and put it in the trunk. On the highway, our camper started running less smoothly. A flat tire, of all things.

Fortunately, a spare tire was on board and there was a gas station nearby. Also, helpful staff who changed the tire for us.

Tamy and I agreed, the camper has to go!

So, we packed our backpacks, booked a hostel, vacuumed the car, and headed towards the car rental.

And that's when we realized, today was one of those days 'when things go wrong, they go really wrong'

The insurance that we took out at the beginning for almost €400 only covers the damage to the door. However, we still have to pay a deductible of €400.

The tire and the piece of paneling have to be fully reimbursed.

We were desperate, having to pay €900 for the damage we caused. Any explanation and discussion were in vain. The damage must be paid for.

At the beginning of my trip, it was really unfortunate, I was close to tears.

With the words that these are exactly the adventures, experiences, and stories that shape us and that we will always remember, Tamy was able to comfort me for the moment.

Now we are enjoying our warm and windless room in the hostel.
