It's getting serious...

The preparations are underway, it's slowly getting serious. On July 7th, 23 we will set sail with our Roede Orm from Fleckeby in Schleswig Holstein to Sweden. The furthest trip so far was last year to Sonderborg (DK), so we are quite excited to make a much longer trip to Stockholm this year.

Our boat is a Beneteau First, 28.5 feet long. The Beneteau has a somewhat unusual layout for its class with two cabins for sleeping (forward and aft), a salon with kitchenette and navigation area, and a small bathroom. The boat was built in the 80s and was brought from Lake Constance to the North by the previous owners.

Several things have already been renovated and replaced. We have just replaced all the upholstery and mattresses as they had become worn out over the years. We have repainted wooden parts, sealed windows, and renewed many electronic components. The old instruments for wind, depth, etc. were no longer functional. Now we have a brand new chart plotter that displays the nautical chart and other measurements on the size of an iPad. With Benny's newly acquired radio license, a radio will also be added. New fenders, life jackets, lifebuoy... this hobby can consume a lot of money. But now we are well prepared for the big trip.
