Finally the time has come!
After weeks of preparation, we started our big journey this morning at 11 am. After the obligatory traffic jam before the Elbe Tunnel and the first few kilometers of free driving towards the north, the tension of the past few days fades away and gives way to the joy that everything has worked out wonderfully so far.
It was a partly exhausting but also educational preparation period, in which we focused on improvements to the vehicle and the right equipment for all passengers. We consciously put the route planning on the back burner. The rough route has been fixed for a long time. Everything else will fall into place over time and during the journey, we thought.
A few days ago, we decided that Annika would take care of the route from Buxtehude to Sundsvall, Sweden. From there, my plan for Norway will come into play (so far, I'm pretty blank). We'll see about everything else...
As the very first destination, Annika has chosen Halsskov, Denmark.
And so we sit here now, after a quite relaxed journey, in the best weather on a beautiful campsite at the bridge that leads over the Great Belt or in Danish "Storebaelt".
We have set up our little camp and had dinner.
Now I sit in the evening sun and write a few lines while Annika puts Henry to bed. But he doesn't want to fall asleep. He's too excited.
Because as if today's day with the start of our journey wasn't exciting enough, our son has also decided to take his first independent steps!
This morning in Buxtehude, he suddenly walked alone through the living room. We could hardly believe it at first and were completely overwhelmed.
It is wonderful to be able to experience these moments together as a family and to see how much fun Henry is having.
So today ends an extraordinarily eventful first day of our big journey.
