Stricter rules, climbing, and ice bathing (02.03.2021-21.03.2021)

Lofalitsidwa: 21.03.2021

Back in Kristiansand and at university

In Kristiansand, the corona restrictions became stricter and the fitness studios and swimming pool closed. Many shops have also closed or have a limited number of customers. It is now mandatory to wear masks in public transportation and recommended in stores.

In the first week after our trip to Tromsø, we had a course on shelter building and making fires in the forest on campus, which was a lot of fun.

Our shelter

We left the shelters we built for the kindergartens so that the children have something to play with. A few days later, we saw the children playing there as we passed by.

To apply our newly acquired knowledge, we also spent a night in a shelter in the adjacent forest. We did this at a chilly -4°C.

Since there was a clear starry sky, many of us slept under the open sky instead of under a plastic tarp.

In the following week, in addition to self-organized compass exercises and classes at university, we spent a day climbing on the nearby rocks. It was a lot of fun.

Leisure activities

In the meantime, I started knitting again. Before I went to Norway, I was considering bringing my knitting stuff, but I thought I wouldn't have time for it here, so I left it all at home.

But when everyone in the course suddenly started knitting, I felt the urge and went to the city to buy yarn and needles. Now I'm knitting a hat with a Norwegian pattern and I occasionally find time to continue.

We also went to Odderøya and watched the sunset. The weather became more and more spring-like, so we could even play beach volleyball.

On a day off, Sara, Debby, and I drove to Flekkerøya, an island off the Norwegian mainland.

We went for a long hike there and enjoyed the beautiful weather and landscape.

On a cold spring morning, a few friends and I walked to a lake five minutes away, where we went ice bathing at 2°C. My toes almost died, but it was still an amazing experience :)

Towards the end of the month, we planned our next trip to Hovden, where our big skiing tour was supposed to take place. More on that in the next post.

Until then, stay healthy
