In Chile, it is said that the first 12 days in January determine the whole year. If that's the case, then at least January is off to a great start. Because Heike decided to go on a trip.
After 3 PM, when the last family member had breakfast, our trip could begin.
At the last minute, the men decided they wanted to stay at home.
The girls set off on their own to Los Condes in the artist district 'Pueblito de los Dominigos' After our friends warned us that we might have to expect long waiting times because buses and the metro don't run regularly on holidays.
But luckily it turned out that we were very lucky. The bus that goes to the metro kindly waited for us, even though we didn't show any signs of wanting to take the bus. Influenced by Germany, we didn't even have the hope of catching the bus, as we were still about 200 meters away. But since we are the only tourists, the bus driver probably thought we wanted to ride. He then had to make up for lost time, so he sped down the road at a very high speed. The doors opened long before the next stop at about 100 kilometers per hour. The bus driver also didn't know how to brake properly. This resulted in the people standing in the bus embracing each other involuntarily. But everything is taken with humor here.
The metro also seemed to be waiting for us, so it was no problem to get to our destination. Unfortunately, it was closed. I didn't know that this pueblo is like a kind of Christmas market, except that you can walk through the Christmas market even when everything is closed. Not there. We couldn't even enter the area. I thought it was a kind of pedestrian zone in the old town. I was way off!
Plan B was to go back a few stations to Tobalaba. There is a huge shopping center. We wanted to eat something there. Unfortunately, closed!
Plan C was now to visit the highest observation tower in South America. The elevator reached the 62nd floor (300m) within a few seconds.
The view was impressive. There we got an idea of how diverse Chile is.
The journey back home also went smoothly and without waiting times, as the bus also waited for us. It has its advantages when you look like a tourist and are the only one.
We ended the evening with a delivered XL pizza.
That was a really nice January 1st. In Germany, I always find this day so boring and dull.
