This morning finally started. Saying goodbye to my family wasn't easy, but I think it was harder for those who stayed behind than for me ;-), I was mainly nervous about everything going smoothly. Picked up Karin at 5.45 and off to the highway - we had to get to Frankfurt Airport. Once we arrived there, we were supposed to drop off the car at meeting point E8. Unfortunately, it wasn't signposted in Frankfurt like that, so we confidently drove into parking garage P8 - it could have been a communication error... P8 is underground and huge - so we had no idea what to do and ended up driving out again, calling and finding the correct meeting point. Checking in and the flight went smoothly, and I realized at the latest during the approach to Iceland - Iceland is really different. From above, it looks like the whole island is a desert. The cool thing was that upon arrival, we didn't have to show our ID or have our belongings checked. I've never entered anywhere so easily. As soon as we had our bags again and were outside the airport, Magnus was already there to pick us up. A perfect service. I was and still am overwhelmed by the first impressions. The vastness of the country, no trees but still green, no people, solitude, hardly any traffic, and small herds of horses at every corner. And the light... it's 11pm and still bright as day. After a 3-hour drive across the country, we finally arrived and just looked at the horses and then had 2 cold beers in the pub while Magnus played music. I can hardly believe that I'm here now.
