The first night in South America ended with a good ten hours of sleep. After breakfast in the guesthouse we went to the “San Cristobal” mountain. At the summit there is a cemetery, a 22m high statue of Mary and the adjacent park offers many opportunities for hiking or mountain biking.
We took an old cable car up, visited the statue and walked through the park for a good two hours in great weather.
From the other side of the mountain we took the gondola back up, where we could enjoy the view with a coffee break.
The old cable car took us back to the starting point, to the Bellavista district, a popular nightlife district with cool restaurants, pubs and plenty of street art. Since we were there in the early afternoon and most of it was still closed, we went back to the pub from the previous day in Lastarria - the pisco sour there was just too tempting.
We then walked through the lively center of the city to the “Barrio Italia” district. The only reason for the barrio's name is the Italian embassy, which is why tons of (Italian) restaurants and cool shops have settled there.
Due to language barriers, we randomly ordered our dinner in a Peruvian restaurant, which tasted excellent, but the portions would have been enough for a small family.
Mona and Felix (the German couple from the day before) had their hostel in Barrio Italia and we ended the evening together with beer and Pisco Sour.
