15th & 16th April - Mia & Safari Iberico

Lofalitsidwa: 16.04.2021

In addition to horses, there are other 'critters' here. You've already seen the bison. Besides, there are plenty of cows roaming around here. And if it weren't for Corona, you could book a 'Safari Iberico'. There are 2 separate enclosures with some animals: llamas, donkeys, wild boars, chickens, goats, 1 pony, and some weird goats. We will definitely post more photos, but today we watched from a distance as a goat jumped onto the back of a donkey and seemed quite comfortable there. And the donkey didn't seem to mind being 'ridden'... :-D

Yesterday we were worried about Mia. She hadn't shown up for 2 days. With the help of Leonie and the last GPS position, we finally found her in an abandoned shed. She was very hungry! - But tonight she showed up at the caravan as 'usual'. Hopefully, things will settle down.

Jenny's crochet projects are multiplying: first, she crocheted a rug for in front of the shower. Very practical and comfortable! The second one was a halter/forelock for the horses. This way, we can put it on them and get them used to such things, and it's still soft and comfortable. Great idea! Now she is working on a rug for the cats. (Photo will follow)

Things are going well with the horses so far. We have already haltered all the mares and are now introducing them to other 'objects' so that they will be less afraid of such and similar things in the future. (Mat, plastic, etc.) Some have already been sold and will soon be loaded and taken to Germany/Austria or Switzerland. It is helpful if they can be loaded 'properly'. Today we started working with the young colts. They are even shyer than the mares, and teenage boys are different from mares in general. But we are taking it step by step, as safely as possible, and so far it's going pretty well. Sometimes we also have to consider the way things are done here at the stud farm, as it makes sense for everyone to do it the same/similar way so that it is easier for the horses.

Yesterday a young colt was treated, who had an accident in the pasture. It turned out quite well with stitching, and we hope it will heal properly.

The weather was beautiful today, but cold. (-1 at night). In the evening, we enjoyed a ride (including a small pond) in the evening sun. To top it off, we played cowgirls/cowboys and drove a handful of cows from one pasture to another with our horses. Almost like the Wild West! ;-)

Lunch is a short/small affair (1 hour) and then we cook in the evening. Not always healthy, but always delicious! And sometimes a bit improvised: you can make pizza in the Actifry if it's not too big! And an empty spice can is perfect as an egg cup!
