Continue northward

Lofalitsidwa: 14.07.2018

Today, another 3.5 hours of train journey was in store. This time, we continued to Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands, on the Turbostar. However, the train did not live up to its name...

Strangely, despite the not-so-good weather forecasts, quite a lot of people had the same idea. The result was a train that was almost overcrowded with luggage...

The journey took us through the Cairngorms National Park, where the landscape alternated between moorland, similar to Dartmoor, pine forests, and birch forests. The villages in between seemed more like foreign bodies.

Just before Inverness, there were a few of those viaducts to cross, similar to the ones in Harry Potter. The tracks on these viaducts were usually quite bumpy, but they are still beautiful to look at :-)

In Inverness, the weather held up relatively well despite the forecasts, but it's windier here than anywhere else in Great Britain so far. I even had time for a sightseeing tour, briefly visiting Inverness Castle, although it's not really worth going inside. Then a little further to Carnac Point, a peninsula where the River Ness and the Delta of the River Beauly merge before flowing into the sea.

The program for tomorrow is quite weather-dependent, so I'll see how it goes.
