In the morning, we left the charming town of Richmond. The path was initially flat, following the River Swale, then through meadows and fields, and - unfortunately for quite a while - over small roads. That means, asphalt, asphalt, asphalt… Nonetheless, the route was not without incidents. Again and again, signs warned of bulls in the meadow. Additionally, our guide had already pointed out that the locals weren't particularly fond of hikers because they trample on their meadows and fields. Thus, the path was often completely overgrown with thorny bushes, thistles, and nettles (not ideal for Anne's first day in shorts). The
