Crete Day 12: May 15th - Vai Palm Beach

Lofalitsidwa: 20.03.2018

As decided the day before, we took our trip to Vai from Xerokampos. So we didn't have to pack our things today and could stay another night in this beautiful accommodation.

Into the mountains!

The only downside was that the only way out of Xerokampos was again the steep serpentine road in the mountains. The fact that it was incredibly windy today didn't make the ride any more pleasant. As soon as we had climbed the mountains, the wind became a little less.

The palm beach

Since Vai with its palm grove was a popular sight, we took advantage of our flexibility again and arrived early enough so that there wasn't much going on yet. So we parked the car at the paid parking lot and walked over to the beach. It was nice, but very touristy. Everywhere extremely expensive sunbeds with umbrellas, a restaurant, and already some people.

Before we found a place, we wanted to climb the viewpoint first. It was easily accessible by a few steps. From above, you had a good view of the beach. Then we went back to the beach and found a quiet place far away from the sunbeds. After seeing the great beach in Xerokampos, this beach wasn't anything special. Just a nice beach, but quite crowded. When the first tour buses arrived, we packed our things again because it got too crowded for us. We decided to spend the rest of the day at the beach in Xerokampos, where we could definitely have peace and quiet.

Back in Xerokampos

Although we had already been to our new favorite beach the day before, I was excited again! Today, the water shimmered even in an even more beautiful color! We settled down in the same spot as the day before and cooled off a bit. Today it was really hot! But like before, we had the same problem today: no shade. When we thought our skin had enough, we retreated and sat a bit on the shady balcony of our accommodation and relaxed there. Our skin should thank us because we already had pretty bad sunburn.

In the evening, we went back to the tavern there because we didn't have any other choice. There wasn't much around. But that was perfectly okay because the food there was delicious! After dinner, we said goodbye to the nice couple who owned this place because we would unfortunately leave the next day. As a farewell, the two of them gave us a glass of pickled oranges. How nice!

Farewell

If we had more time, we would have loved to stay longer. Xerokampos is truly a wonderful place to relax! If you want to escape all the hustle and bustle for a while, this is the right place. But our road trip wasn't over yet and now took us to Agios Nikolaos.
