At 6:50 a.m., the shuttle takes us from the hotel to the airport. Check-in is smooth for domestic flights. Flight duration is 2 hours, with some clouds but otherwise good visibility of the increasingly red soil. In Alice Springs, we have to set the clocks back by 30 minutes. Boing 717 is not full. It takes 20 minutes by taxi to the hotel.
Here we see many Aboriginal people, but also a lot of police. Micha still needs a hat. It is 37°C at 4:00 p.m., with a light wind blowing, it feels like someone is blowing directly into your face. In the evening, all the stores are "locked", almost every storefront has the roller shutters down, no shop windows to be seen. Even the restaurants have fences that can be locked. In front of our hotel, there are street lights in the evening, everything is illuminated. (Photos)
Tomorrow we are going to the Red Centre, another highlight, where we will be camping in the outback for three days and visiting Uluru and Kata Tjuta rocks at both sunrise and sunset. Three days of hiking. We can only bring a small travel bag each, so the laptop will stay in the hotel with the suitcases.
