I've used the last few days to relax and read a lot. After two days I also changed campsites. The new place was a bit bizarre, quite simple and a collection of everything. The Christmas decorations were hanging in the lounge, I said to an older man: "Everything for Christmas is already here!" His answer: "Oh, yes, it's been three years!" 😅
There were countless flyers in the lounge that seemingly every traveler had left behind. I looked at them all and used them to plan my route and found a few things that I really wanted to see. The list of attractions is getting longer and longer and I'm sitting here and waiting... Tomorrow I'm going to Timaru, where I'm going to a freedom camping site again, where the car will be swapped on Saturday. But I don't feel like just driving the 30 minutes to Timaru. I finally want to experience something again. So I do something totally pointless 😅: I drive 200 km towards Dunedin and then back to Tikmaru! The stopover on my trip today is the Moeraki Boulders. Large rounded stones on the beach that look like someone cut large balls in half and placed them there. But it was just nature at work here.
After my return to Timaru I had time to relax again. I was incredibly tired and actually wanted to go to sleep early. But I took advantage of the time and packed my things and cleaned the car. Then I went to the beach, which is right next to the camping pitch. Penguins nest there. Little penguins - the same ones I was able to see in Australia. This isn't a mass event. Here you can relax and walk along the footpath that leads directly to the beach and wait. Shortly after sunset, which here is only around 9:30 p.m., the penguins waddled ashore. It always looks so funny how these little animals wiggle their bottoms and are quite nimble. A lovely experience!
Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow - swapping campers and then things can really get started!
