Arrival North Island / Day 1

Hello dear ones, after my flight was rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday, I naturally missed my connecting flight. The flight on Sunday was also delayed by 1.5 hours, which caused me to miss the connecting flight in Dubai and had to take the next flight 6 hours later. But since my boat to the island left in the morning at 9 o'clock, I unfortunately missed the boat and thought I wouldn't get to the island at all. There is only one boat from the main island to North Island on Mondays and Fridays at 9 o'clock. Fortunately, there was another connection in the afternoon, via another island (Silhouette), which I could take, so I still arrived on Monday :)

When I arrived, it was raining, but that didn't diminish the beauty of this island. There are a lot of large tortoises here (about 160). I have already seen a sea turtle as well.

The accommodation is very simple, which I absolutely expected. The essentials are there and the beds are comfortable.

I am currently sitting on our terrace in the shade during my lunch break and writing to you. We got up at 6 o'clock in the morning to patrol the East Beach, as it gets too hot later in the day. Then we had breakfast and were driven to the West Beach by buggy. There we found two trails of green turtles in the sand, which we documented. After walking the entire beach to look for more tracks and pick up trash, we returned to our accommodation and briefly went to the Staff Beach (see photo). After picking up more trash there and enjoying the panorama for a bit, we went to have lunch.

This afternoon we will go snorkeling (the first time I snorkel in the sea) and this evening, with luck, we might be able to see freshly hatched baby turtles running into the sea. So keep your fingers crossed that it works out :)
