VANCOUVER ISLAND & HORNBY ISLAND: SUPER NATURAL
Ellerslie Bed and Breakfast, 6470 Mystery Beach Road, Fanny Bay BC V0R1W0, CANADA
We open our eyes: birds chirping, best blueberry muffins, freshly brewed coffee: we are definitely no longer in Vegas. Landed on time with the Canadian low-cost airline WestJet in Vancouver at 11 degrees (so cold?) with a 2-hour ferry ride over water from Vancouver City to Vancouver Island and a 60-minute drive with our Jeep right into the natural paradise to Ellerslie in Buckley Bay:
The largest Pacific island Vancouver Island is located in the southwest of the Canadian region British Columbia and consists of incredibly much rainforest. 450km long and 100km wide, 750,000 inhabitants - and many bears, cougars and wolves, eww. Many small islands, like Hornby Island (our destination on the 2nd day in Canada), surround Vancouver Island. The special thing is the diversity of the island - high snow-covered mountains and at the same time beautiful green landscapes with beaches and lots of nature right on the Pacific. A mix we didn't know yet :- )
Our beautiful bed & breakfast right by the sea, Ellerslie, was built in 1897, recommended by Lufthansa employees and managed by Rebecca today. The true Canadian, funny Canadian who does everything for the best breakfast in the world! Up until now, I thought the best breakfast in the world comes from Jens. Ellerslie smells of fresh wood and freshly baked muffins and has 3 guest rooms with a fireplace. From the largest hotel in San Francisco (1,400 rooms) to the smallest in Vancouver (3 rooms). We definitely like the smaller one better. Now it's time to enjoy Canada, peace and tranquility. A day of relaxing by the sea - yipieh!
The temperature the next day was ideal to leave early and well-rested for Hornby Island to the British Columbia National Park. Hornby is two islands behind Vancouver Island - you have to take a ferry to Denman Island (30 minutes), cross Denman Island by car, and take the next ferry (20 minutes) to land on the small island of Hornby (6 x 3km). You actually only get around this island by seaplane - next time ;-) The island was beautiful, settled by a few emigrated nature lovers and artists. The view of the mountains of Vancouver Island was breathtaking - we were not in the beautiful national parks of Canada for the last time. The ideal country for a tour with a motorhome. After hiking, lunch with locals and many nature impressions, we returned to Ellerslie in the evening - one, two, three drinks with Rebecca on the relaxing veranda and learned a lot about the relaxed Canadians, pure nature lovers: Super Natural, after all.
