Island of Tavira

E phatlaladitšwe: 09.04.2022

Our last stop in Portugal is the Island of Tavira, a sandbank off the coast that gives this part the name Sandalgarve. Again, there are not many pitches here and we park on the street, but we want to look for something else for the night.
A small bridge and we are already on the sandbank, which is several kilometers long and at some points easily 500m wide. Around it there is a marshland that provides a habitat for countless animals.

A single-track mini railway spans the width of the sandbank and shuttles tourists back and forth. In previous years, it served as a means of transporting materials.

The sandbank is home to probably the only open-air museum for anchors (used to anchor the traps).

Here we walk along the beach, find great shells and spend the afternoon lazing around.
