Week 21 - East Coast of Sardinia

This week will likely go down as the hiking week of my trip.

On Tuesday, I hiked around Punta Cartucceddu and covered nearly 14 km. There were hardly any people in the nature reserve, only goats and cows crossed my path. In Sardinia, there are hardly any fenced pastures, so the animals can move freely wherever they want. The farmer usually checks daily where his animals are.

On Wednesday, I met Christian. He is a native German but has lived in Switzerland for the past 14 years. He has now given up everything and has been traveling around Sardinia for 2 weeks. As he has been to Sardinia several times before, he was able to give me some tips. Over the next few months, he wants to sell his bus and continue traveling on foot. He was inspired by Christine Thürmer, known as the most hiked woman in the world.

On Thursday, I continued hiking. I reached the national park in the Gulf of Orosei and hiked to Pedra Longa. This is a rock that rises vertically from the water. Here I covered approximately 12 km.

Because I hadn't had enough yet, the national park has so much to offer, and the weather was cooperating, I hiked from Pass Ghenna 'e Silana to the Gola Gorropu Canyon on Friday. This was only 10 km in total, but it involved a total of 1400 meters of elevation gain. The canyon is truly impressive. There is also a shuttle service from the canyon back to the pass, but it starts about 8 km after the canyon. I decided to hike back the 4 km with 700 meters of elevation gain. The canyon has a 5 euro entrance fee, which I think is completely okay. I spent the night on the pass at an altitude of over 1000 meters. Despite the warm temperatures, it was quite chilly, so on Saturday I headed to Cala Gonone. Here I stayed at Cala Fuili beach for 2 nights.

Saturday was lazy day and on Sunday I hiked to Cala Luna. The beach is said to be one of the most beautiful in Sardinia (but I've already heard that about more than 10 other beaches...). Cala Luna can only be reached on foot or by boat. There is a water taxi, but I wasn't sure if it was already operating. So I hiked the 6 km just in case and was actually able to take the water taxi back for 20 euros. I found the beach itself disappointing. I have seen nicer beaches, it was really crowded, and the hike there didn't offer any highlights, not even a view of the sea... Theoretically, there is also a cave on the way from Cals Fuili to Cala Luna, but it won't open until next week.

So tomorrow I will leave the national park again. At the moment, I'm sitting on the beach because I don't have reception at the camper van itself. The weather was mostly good this week, and when it's sunny, it's really warm. But the weather for next week is supposed to be a bit worse.
