Through the Harz

Osterode am Harz

After a restful and very quiet night in Bad Frankenhausen, we set off to explore the Harz Mountains. Neither of us had been here before, so we were off to a land of adventure.

The drive along the federal highways was incredible. Almost like the Black Forest High Road! Lots of curves and ups and downs. Luckily there was very little traffic. The federal highway offered views that I would never have expected. While the fields along the road were almost glowing with poppies, daisies, cornflowers, viper's bugloss and many other flowers, the slopes often presented a sad sight. In many forests there were only the bare trunks of conifers. Then, however, a surprise: hop fields along the road, as we know them from the Lake Constance region and Bavaria. And yet we have not been offered any BEER FROM HERE on our trip so far. Bavaria's breweries clearly have this region firmly under their control.

Our first stop was Osterode am (not IM!) Harz. A beautiful place with many well-preserved houses. A beach volleyball tournament was taking place on the market square. I'm always up for a tasty sausage. So we watched the youth teams and enjoyed a well-fried sausage from the local butcher. A few corners further on, an espresso beckoned in Café Kapp. It's been a few years since I've eaten a cream puff. Here they had it with cream and cherries. It was the challenge of the day for me to eat this delicious thing. It worked almost without a hitch and was very, very tasty.

Next stop was GOSLAR, as planned. It wasn't easy to find a parking space for a motorhome. We managed to find a parking space at the KAISERPFALZ. The weather was also imperial - or something like that. Sunshine, not too warm, and a light wind accompanied us on our way through the city. It's impressive how well old houses have been preserved here! There are so many of them that it would take up too much space on this page to show even half of them. We enjoyed the last espresso of the day at the Lohmühle, then set off for HARZ CAMP GOSLAR. Unfortunately, the feed barn was not open, but there were plenty of cakes and other things to buy in the camping shop. And guests can use the bread roll service for the next day. We took the opportunity to test the washing machine and dryer. (Drying worked reasonably well.)

See you soon!
