Naively, I thought I was on vacation here with Susanne. But no, today we walked over 18 km, more than 25,000 steps - according to her fitness tracker. As a result, we are also exhausted.
We started after a fantastic breakfast at Diamond Beach: black lava sand on which ice floes are washed up by the current. When the sun shines on them, they sparkle like diamonds. Behind it is the large lagoon into which the glacier calves and impressive icebergs float around.
After that, various waterfalls with different distances to walk, ranging from just getting out of the car to a 200m ascent. And basalt columns in different variations, formed by volcanoes and cleverly cooled, partly overhanging, partly vertical, impressive in any case.
Susanne still wants to go to these puffin breeding grounds. But there are none breeding on the beach in Vik, although they fly around there and the road to the next peninsula is closed. I am already saturated with the many impressions, the fantastic landscape and the incredible colors, and I am happy when we finally reach our accommodation at 9 p.m local time.
Special treat at the end: there is a hot pot, a small outdoor pool heated to 40° by geothermal energy. The water is somehow creamy, full of volcano minerals. It is sure to be good for the skin and keeps you young & beautiful :)
