Mis últimos participantes - 120 participants and a completed survey

E phatlaladitšwe: 10.02.2018

Today, for the last time, I went to San Juan de Miraflores to find my last 20 survey participants.

After interviewing 60 people in the parks of Surco initially, I went to a place called Parque Zonal in San Juan on several days. This park is huge, with grassy areas, playgrounds, and even a swimming pool.

Many families come to this park on weekends. Most of the time, they sit in large groups with more than 10 people on the lawn, letting the children play, socializing, and eating. This environment was ideal for my survey as most people had time, and I could interview multiple participants at once.

During the days I conducted my survey, I noticed some cultural and linguistic differences. One of them is that many of the participants, especially women, could not provide an occupation on the questionnaire because they did not go to university but stayed at home with their children after school. Since there is no education system like in Germany here in Peru, these people did not learn a profession that they could indicate.

Especially in dealing with people from the poorer district of San Juan, I noticed that they were very open towards me. Almost everyone was willing to participate in the survey, talked to me, and some even offered me their food and drinks while waiting for them to fill out the questionnaires.

Now I am very relieved to finally have all my participants together. However, during my surveys, I had positive and surprising experiences and also improved my Spanish skills.
