KG: After a quiet night in the Blue Mountains, we set off towards Washington. We don't understand why the mountains are blue. Perhaps it's because we can't see them at all, as the landscape is covered in fog. Unfortunately, we hardly see anything of the mountains and the Shenandoah Valley that we are crossing.
Once in Washington DC, Andreas attends a soccer game while I explore the area around our accommodation. I walk to the Capitol to take a few photos before it gets dark.
A: On the 11th matchday of the Major Soccer League of the Eastern Conference, the Washington DC United soccer club faced Phildadelphia Union. A stadium with a great design awaited me in the capital of the United States, the likes of which I had never seen before. After the US national anthem was sung and a great fireworks show, I quickly noticed that the soccer game was becoming very commercial. There would be no such thing in Germany. The game was more like a show. In the end, DC United and Philadelphia drew 2:2 in front of 17,237 spectators, including an estimated 1,000 fans of the visitors. In the constant rain that evening, I thus earned my 8th country point.
