January 18, 2024 Ushuaia Day 2
At least we were allowed to stay in Ushuaia until 1:30 p.m. I headed to a modern shopping center that Mauri had shown us during our drive. However, it took me about 35 minutes to get there on foot. When I got there I had to wait another 15 minutes because the center didn't open until 10 a.m. There was no hairdresser there, but there was free internet and an electronics store. Thanks to the translation app, I was able to express my desire for a bathroom scale and was able to choose one of two models. After a complicated and opaque transaction, during which I also had to identify myself, I was allowed to pay with US$. Then I was allowed to take the scale with me, almost 15 minutes after my purchase decision.
In the center's supermarket I bought a large bag of chips for my cabin steward and some chilled water for myself. And again it took forever until I paid. In total I spent an hour in the mall.
After walking back, I looked for a hairdresser again, met a group of fellow travelers and joined them. Together we actually discovered a hairdresser who only had one customer in the shop. However, he treated it so carefully that I wasn't able to sit down in the hairdresser's chair until well after 12 p.m. I was running out of time. The hairdresser treated me just as thoroughly, cut some of my hair individually, also took care of my eyebrows and did an impeccable job, even though we hadn't been able to communicate. I kept checking the clock and was glad that we finished around 11:40. I was only charged US$5.00! I added another $2.00, which the hairdresser was happy about, and hurried back to the ship, which I reached in time.
After a minimal lunch in the entertaining company of Karyn and Jim, I felt I had earned a "Watermelon Margarita" cocktail, which I enjoyed by the elephant pool in the presence of two other now acquaintances.
Afterwards I took a long nap and didn't wake up until dinner. Today there were Indian dishes, almost all of which I tried and ended up eating more than I had intended.
When I wanted to put the new scale into operation, I discovered that the required button cell was not included. Weak.
