inspired by this statement (from the book 'eat & run' which I'm currently reading) SOMETIMES YOU JUST DO THINGS, I finally bought a car! Well, more like a mini-campervan. For my time on the island, having a car is almost essential, as I can even live in it and therefore save on accommodation costs even better. Actually, Dieter bought it, meaning he rented it through the B&B in his name (plus insurance) and we saved a good 1,400 Swiss Francs. I paid almost 5,000 Swiss Francs.
Luckily, I was able to enjoy a 4-day weekend and could immediately test the car - it is great!
The highlight was definitely the Mount Washington run, where I unexpectedly did really well (or rather climbed well). The organization was different though, 2 hours before the start there was nothing to see on the whole site and in the parking lot there was only my car that had been there all night. About 90 minutes before the start, people started showing up (yeah we were a bit lazy this morning). The course was supposed to be 14km, but on my watch I only ran 12km (yeah sometimes the course is a bit shorter than we tell on the website). The buffet at the finish (which was not on the mountain, but down at the start) was definitely unusual - but very nice. More about it in the photos.
Oh, and it started raining for the first time since I've been here, only for 10 minutes, but it was enough to make the race day nicely clouded and pleasant.
Other than that, a good week.
