After the bustling Shëngjin, we hit the jackpot - we live on top of a hill and relaxingly overlook Lalzi Bay, which is about 40 km before Durrës.
We drive by car to Kepi i Rodonit (a castle and a church on the beach) - a long and crazy way, which actually consists only of potholes (or rather craters) and sometimes you really have big concerns... especially when locals shoot towards you at 80 km/h in the narrow curve!
From the parking lot, we walk and climb through a forest to reach Rodoni Castle - here too, the way was totally worth it, the nature is simply overwhelming!
From the beginning, we noticed the huge waste problem in Albania. There is an incredible amount of garbage on every road, every corner, in every forest and on the beaches. Partly because the government does not pay for proper waste disposal, partly due to carelessness, and some of it is also washed up from the sea. Whatever the reason, it is really shocking!
Since we have time and desire for a task, we collect the rubbish on a large section of beach where there are no bars or resorts and nobody takes care of it. Of course, it's only a drop in the ocean, everything is a bottomless pit, but at least the rubbish collected by us is not flushed into the sea again. We have decided to do this more often now, it was mega cool and really fun!
After our rubbish action, we have cocktails at the beach bar and then we accidentally end up at the Frruku Restaurant and the great day gets its perfect ending! The owner and his family are the nicest people in the world, we get showered with homemade schnapps, the food is incredibly delicious (and actually way too cheap) and we get to know the whole family (many of them from Germany)!
