Upon returning to the main islands, we quickly checked into the hotel and then set off.
In the far east of the island, there is an attraction that is said to resemble Moses, who allegedly divided the sea. Depending on the water level, there is a path through the sea to a small rock island. Unfortunately, we hadn't done much research and had to discover on site that the water level was too high. However, the place still had something unique, which is why we walked along the coast for a while. In the meantime, the sun had already set and we slowly made our way back home.
The next day was dedicated to the main islands of Huxi, Baisha, and Xiyu. The first highlight was a huge tree (Banyan Tree) that entwined itself around a temple and columns. The densely grown branches formed a real roof that allowed hardly any sunlight. There were a few small shops lined up on the side, mostly selling jewelry and ice cream. But not just any ice cream, but the famous cactus ice cream, which we of course had to try. I was amazed by the purple color of the cactus fruit, which reminds me more of dragon fruit.
Just a few minutes away, we visited the so-called Whale Cave. The wind was so incredibly strong that after several attempts to take a nice photo, I had to give up (see first picture);) We also made another short stop at the Dayi Temple, which had impressive architectural details. Afterwards, we continued to Erkan, a small historic village, where we enjoyed a cup of coffee. On the way, we passed by a rock wall (Daguoye Columnar Basalt) with an interesting pattern, which was crowded with many tourists.
Now it was time for some relaxation at the beach. So we visited Naian Beach, which is located at the very end of the island group. However, due to the strong wind, we decided not to go swimming this time. After a refreshment break, we finally started our journey back home. The wind was still getting stronger and sometimes blew us off the scooter. Tired from the challenging ride, we took a break at Dream Beach before heading to the hotel. When we arrived there, we had to warm up a bit after the chilly breeze.
It was now 6:00 p.m. and time for the transfer to the airport. Our flight to Taichung took off at 7:40 p.m. With a flight time of about 25 minutes (felt like 10 minutes), it was my shortest flight ever.
My conclusion about the Penghu Islands: If you have enough time, you should definitely include this island group in your travel itinerary. I was especially impressed by the diversity that Penghu has to offer.
