The longest stage in Iceland is happening today. Hildegard is taking me to Reykjavik, where we will have the rear brake built, and off we go towards Höfn. The weather is changeable at a balmy 11°C. Every now and then there is fog and drizzle.

The circumnavigation of the southern part of Iceland is a breathtaking ride through beautiful landscapes. I would stay a little longer here on my next visit and not just pass through. In some mountains I see its face ;) and merge with it. They radiate tranquility and dignity, the mountains.

We stop at Eyjafjallajökull - unfortunately it is hidden in the clouds. We pass through a huge glacial drainage area. Some places have very little water flowing, but you can guess the possibilities based on the riverbed.

After every bend there is a new view: just now there were rugged gray basalt columns, then there are gentle green slopes with sheep under gray-brown rocks, sometimes I feel like I'm in Hobbitland. There is a silver-green moss here that forms thick mats and fits so well into the dark gray mountain world with this color. Then suddenly basalt desert. All around. And there, in the middle of small hollows, a herb with small pink flowers grows. But this time in such quantity that it is very noticeable. Pink stripes on gray sand, above that light gray rock and in between a couple of intensely white snowfields flash. Thick gray clouds sit on top. Genius!

No stop possible. No photo. But wonderful. Maybe I'll try painting it with a brush and colors later, at home.

A stop at Diamond Beach is possible. Here the glacier has advanced so far into the sea that the calved icebergs swim into the sea over a short distance and you can watch it, even take a kayak trip through the floating icebergs. The current of the glacial water then meets the approaching tide of the North Atlantic.

Yes, and then around 10 p.m. today, about 600km drive on the ring road is done. Me too. Hotel Höfn is waiting for me. Now I'm back on the Eurasian continental plate and sleep wonderfully here.
