I was really looking forward to Bali! Usually, I have a specific idea of a country and then I am disappointed because it's not what I imagined. That was also the case here, but it quickly turned into the opposite. Bali is perfect for a relaxed holiday!
Marion spent the first few days in Kuta, a well-known tourist place in Bali, and then met up with her mom after a few days. Flo and I stayed in Canggu with a friend of his, Pam, who is actually from Hamburg, but has been living in Bali for a year with her boyfriend Michi and their son Luki.
Our first week in Bali can be described quickly, the daily routine was roughly like this: Sleeping in, jumping into the pool, eating, taking a nap, pool time, exploring the area a bit, watching the sunset in a beach bar with a cool drink in hand, eating, partying.
We usually got our food at the warungs, the local snack bars, and it was incredibly delicious (and cheap)!
We also went for a few massages. Dreamlike! :-) And an hour there costs about 6 euros!
One day, Marion, Flo, and I went rafting. I wonder why I didn't try that much earlier, it was really fun! When we arrived at the destination, Balinese women carried the heavy inflatable boats on their heads up a steep hill to the cars, it was incredible! We were already close to a heart attack even without the boat...
A few days after us, Becki and Dani came to Canggu, two girls from Germany and friends of Pam and Mitch.
Since I wanted to do a scooter tour around the island with Flo in the second week, I also had my first driving lessons. At first, I was really scared and it took me a while to get the hang of it. It's definitely not easy to navigate through the chaotic Balinese traffic! But after a few days of practice, I felt (somewhat) ready. :-)
