Zanzibar - There are no complications

E phatlaladitšwe: 05.04.2024

Hello everyone!

We have now settled in Zanzibar and especially with the weather. Now that we mostly have cloudy skies and occasional beautiful, tropical rain showers, it is more pleasant to be outside. Initially, it was only bearable in the water.

When we planned our sabbatical, we decided that this time we would like to go to Tanzania in the rainy season. Since we have plenty of time and it must be fascinating to see the whole country in its green, blooming splendor. We are aware that we will see fewer animals (which is why tourists come in the dry season), but it is already super beautiful here in Zanzibar! The famous animals of Africa will only come on the mainland, and we may have to search a bit more for them, here we mainly have some pretty birds. The second reason why we wanted to go to Africa in the rainy season is that we wanted to see a baobab tree with leaves and preferably with flowers once. And we have already been lucky enough to see this here in Zanzibar. The flowers are huge and bloom only briefly. In all other seasons, the tree looks like the roots are on top as it has no leaves.

After walking to the right and left on the beach, as well as taking a walk to the greener center, we found it was time for the city. We took the Dalla Dalla to Stonetown. Some of the readers know both the vehicle and the city. Although Müsli explained to me that the 22 people inside were not many yet, I still found it tight. Everything is pushed in and up as much as possible. In Stonetown, it was too crowded for us, and we quickly returned to the beach.

After the city, the question arose, what do we do next. It was still too hot to continue hiking on those days, and it is somewhat tiring as you have to say every minute that you do not want to buy anything. I found Hassan on Googlemaps and Hassan rents scooters. Everything was quickly arranged with him, including a driver's license for Zanzibar. The international driver's license is not accepted. Instead, an extra driver's license for $15 was issued for me within 2 hours. Well then. From there, we explored the northern part of the island by scooter. This had the advantage that we were not approached so often and the breeze was very pleasant. One day we went to a small chameleon breeding station. The animals are bred here to be released into the wild. We were allowed to feed them and hold them. Did the animals like that? We, on the other hand, were thrilled!

Our hotel is really a stroke of luck, it is not too big, the food is varied and delicious. The cocktails and beer also taste - we actually lack nothing. One of us had to get used to the 'doing nothing' a little longer. 😇

We also get along well with the hotel staff and learn some Swahili every day.

Tomorrow we will pick up the neighbors from the airport and look forward to our sports week with them.

See you soon to all of you there in spring, let us hear from you. 🙂
