Day 2 - New York

E phatlaladitšwe: 29.08.2016

Even though New York is said to never sleep, Michelle and I had a wonderful sleep after the exhausting journey. And after a small breakfast, we couldn't wait to wander through the streets of New York again.

First, we visited Central Park. With its 349 hectares, the park covers about 6% of the land area of Manhattan. But the beauty is, as soon as you enter the park, you are in a different world. After a few steps, you leave behind the hustle and bustle and noise of the big city and enjoy the beautiful, green oasis in the midst of skyscrapers.

From Central Park, we continued on the 5th Avenue towards Rockefeller Center. The world-famous street is known for its many luxury boutiques. But with a price of over $30,000 per square meter, only the most exclusive stores can afford a location here. However, there are also some affordable stores for the average consumer, and we took the opportunity to go shopping.

Among all the shops, there are also some sights to admire, such as St. Patrick's Cathedral, the Plaza Hotel (yes, we mainly know it from 'Home Alone 2 *g*), the Trump Tower, and much more.

But the highlight of today was undoubtedly the visit to Rockefeller Center. The complex consists of a total of 21 high-rise buildings and spans three city blocks. The tallest building is the Comcast Building with its 70 floors. It is one of the tallest buildings in New York. So up we went. Unlike the Empire State Building, we didn't have to wait long here and could enjoy an incredible view after a few minutes.

We spent the rest of the day on a bus tour through downtown and Brooklyn. But we had to make a stop in the world-famous 'Little Italy' so that I don't get homesick. :-) But it has really become very small, as the neighborhood is being increasingly taken over by Chinatown. But with its charming cafes, gelaterias, and restaurants, it is definitely worth a visit!
