Today a surf contest took place in Salvador. Of course, we didn't want to miss that! So we set off in bright sunshine. On our way there, we passed by the juice shop where we occasionally treat ourselves to a delicious fruit juice. There, the Policia Militar took a short break again. There are several different police groups in Salvador. The most present and relevant in Salvador is the Policia Militar, which consists of police officers from the military in Salvador. They are not only present due to their large number of people (at least 3 people always go on patrol), but also because of their weapons, which they always carry openly and ready to use.
Quite strange. In Germany, you would only see something like this in serious situations, airports, or larger train stations, but in Brazil, everything is a bit different.
Then we continued to the surf contest. It was impressive to see how the athletes tried to catch every wave, but unfortunately, the waves didn't always cooperate with the surfers. The water was rather shallow and the waves were correspondingly short and small. But the surfers were able to make the best of it and score the important points for themselves.
