With a slight dissatisfaction in our luggage, we now had to leave the southwest corner. There were still a few things we would have liked to see, but in order to reach the departure point at the right time in a few weeks, we can't linger too much. We also had to adjust our route as we had trouble finding accommodation in Kalgoorlie. Instead of driving a bit further along the south coast, we went straight to the Outback and to Kalgoorlie-Boulder (a twin city that revolves around gold mining and that we - how could it be otherwise - know from DMAX series). Unfortunately, we missed a few national parks along the coast, but after thorough research, it seems to be somewhat bearable...
A stopover at about halfway was the Wave Rock, a rock formation in the shape of a wave.
We didn't find Kalgoorlie itself particularly rewarding, but the size and activity of the largest open-pit gold mine active here were definitely very impressive.
The return journey through the Outback to the coast will take us to Esperance together with many road trains.
