22.09.2019 ~ Second Day

E phatlaladitšwe: 14.10.2016

Today would normally have been my trip to Alexandria, which I cancelled. Instead, Lana was kind enough to do something with me. Shopping was on the program. On the way there, we made a stop at the Cairo Tower.

In front of the Tower, you can find ancient Banyan trees, planted in 1868.
A truly impressive sight

Here is another big picture. I didn't have the right lens with me.

The Cairo Tower

The Cairo TV Tower (Arabic برج القاهرة Burj al-Qāhira, Egyptian Arabic Borg el-Qāhira) is a 187 meters high TV tower built in massive construction, which resembles lotus flowers in its design. The Cairo TV Tower was completed in 1961 by 500 workers on the Nile island Gezira and has an open viewing platform, a café, and a rotating restaurant on three levels for public access. The diameter of the tower shaft is 14 meters. The special feature of the Cairo TV Tower is that it consists of pure concrete without a steel skeleton and is therefore the highest structure made entirely of concrete.

The view from up there is spectacular. I would have loved to come back in the evening. Unfortunately, my schedule was very tight.
